Opeth are a Progressive Metal band from Sweden who are renowned for adding varying non-metal elements to their sound and for being influenced by diverse musical styles, ranging from Jazz, 1970s Progressive Rock, Blues and Folk. Vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt is also noted for his singing, utilizing both clean and death growls, often in one song. Due to their unique blend of melodic and progressive elements, Opeth are often classified separately from more typical Death Metal acts. The name Opeth was taken from Wilbur Smith’s novel Sunbird and derived from Opet, a city of the moon named in the novel.

Comentario personal del album:
Personalmente creo que Watershed es, sin la mas mínima duda, el mejor album de Opeth desde su excelentisimo Blackwater Park de 2001. Los discos entre este periodo 2001-2008 han sido bastante buenos, especialmente destacable Damnation, pero este ultimo Watershed acaba de dejar en porretas a todos los demas albumes hechos en ese periodo. Es un album en el que visiblemente se combinan elementos progresivos y extremadamente complejos con voces, como siempre, atronadoras. Me he quedado con la estructura de "Coil", la primera cancion que actua como una especie de introducción, con la presencia de voces femeninas. Para mi, las canciones mas destacables son "The Lotus Eater" (cancion 3) y Porcelain Heart (cancion 5), dos autenticos temazos 100% Opeth. Disfrutad este impresionante disco!!

Equilibrium is a viking metal band from Germany. The band combines various elements of folk and Black metal. The band is relatively new to the black metal scene but has had some success, especially with their debut album Turis Fratyr. Their lyrics are about Germanic tales and Germanic mythology in general. Three of the band members have left since the release of Turis Fratyr so it may be possible that their next album (called 'Sagas') will sound substantially different.

Arckanum is a black metal band from Mora, Sweden. The band formed in 1993 and consists of only Shamaatae as sole member.
Arckanum is not a “pagan” black metal band. Shamaatae is a practising chaos-gnostic.
Until now, Arckanum has released, besides a number of demo’s and EP’s, three full-lenght albums: - Fran marder (1995) - Kostogher (1997) - Kampen (1998)

Scar Symmetry is a melodic death metal band from Avesta, Sweden formed in 2004. In addition to typical melodic death metal aesthetics (numerous melodies and harmonies in the guitars, growling vocals, etc.), they incorporate symphonic sounds into their music. They also utilize a combination of clean vocals, which some fans find akin to power metal. Therefore their style is often described as “New Melodic Death”. October Falls was formed in 2001 and recorded the first demos later at the same year, although that demo was sent only to a few individuals. After the recordings and a small break, new music was composed and the whole material slowly turned from melodic Dark Metal to all acoustic, that later was released as a part of October Falls “Tuoni”. Currently October Falls have release their debut full-length "Marras".

Hollenthon is an Austrian Symphonic Metal band formed in 1994 in Vienna by Martin Schirenc of DM band Pungent Stench.
Original bandname was “Vuzem”, changed to “Hollenthon” in 1999. Hollenthon’s work is influenced by a variety of Classical music, such as that of Richard Wagner. Vocals range from harsh to male operatic and even to female (performed by Martin’s ex-wife Elena). Both of their albums (“Domus Mundi” (1999) and “With Vilest of Worms to Dwell” (2001)) have been highly regarded by fans and magazines alike. Their third album “Opus Magnum” was released in May 2008.

This Dutch black metal band was formed in late 1993. Cirith Gorgor is the “pass of death” in Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” series.
The band’s name is taken from The Lord of the Rings. “Cirith Gorgor,” called the Haunted Pass, the point were the mountain ranges of the Ered Lithui and the Ephel Dúath met, to the northwest of Mordor.

Keep of Kalessin spawned back in 1994, under the name Ildskjaer, by the hand of Ghash and Obsidian C., later joined by Vyl and Warach. The band´s violent yet dark and epic black metal - as well as the somewhat mysterious monicker and lyrics - are inspired by the work of American fantasy writer Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Earthsea Quartet. With this concept in mind, the guys recorded the first demo Skygger av Sorg in the Fall of 1996, though several problems in finding a proper rehearsal room made this task rather difficult.

During Summer 2004, Amesoeurs was formed by Neige (also member of Alcest and Peste Noire), Audrey Sylvain and Fursy Teyssier with the purpose of creating music that reflects the dark side of the industrial era and modern civilization.
A few songs were immediately written and the band performed one gig. Shortly after, Fursy Teyssier decided to leave the band to go back to his studies. In April 2005, a first MCD entitled “Ruines Humaines” was recorded. The band sent it to a few labels but had to wait 2006 to see its release through German label Northern Silence Productions. Amesoeurs has worked with the photographer Isabelle Hanssen for the pictures of “Ruines Humaines” and the graphic designer Fursy Teyssier so as to create a visual environment which perfectly suits the music.

Valoracion personal: Recordar que esto no es un disco (LP) sino un EP. Teniendo en cuenta que es su primer EP la calidad de sonido es impresionante para lo que se suele esperar del primer EP de una banda. Realmente no considero a esta banda una banda de Black Metal, creo que basicamente es musica Shoegaze (tambien llama Dream Pop), pero la interpretan desde el punto de vista del Black Metal. Si lo ois detenidamente descubrireis que no es Black Metal. Es un disco interesante, probadlo.

Formed in November 1997 in a small town in eastern Ukraine as a side project of Thorgeir Berserk - vocal/bass/guitar (Eternal Mourning) and Svart - guitars (Dip in Feel) to play fast but melodious black metal. In late 1998 BALFOR recruited Hvedrung (guitars) and Holmgang (drums) in their main formations for recording first demo “Drevnost’, Gordost’, Proklyatie” containing four tracks: “Bitva Pri Klontarfe”, “Ludi Sval’be Fiorda”, “Grom” and ENSLAVED cover “Fenris”. Unfortunately this demo wasn’t released because of very low recording quality.
