Merrimack is a French black metal band. Merrimacks demos have been drifting around in the underground BM scene for several years now garnering a cult following. Their first demo “Act1” was released in 1995. Merrimack was the first black metal band to play in Paris (1996 with Necromass and Dark Funeral). Rather than focus on mythology, Merrimacks members have elected to place a strong focus on the occult and the philosophical aspects of the black arts including an extremely religious approach to Satanism.

It was time of the autumn moon in the year 2003 in Raahe Finland when Ojalehto and Ahola got the idea of founding a folk metal band to awake something old that was forgotten and honour the nature in our way. We started to make songs and write lyrics for this band. Soon we made up the name “Vigrid” that represents to us the oldtimes when our ancestors were part of the nature and believed that each man chooses his own paths to walk . So we decided to make a demo in our own amateur studio called “Gjaller”. After two months of work we had accomplished our first demo in December and it was named “Anxious Soul”.

Katatonia formed in 1991 in Stockholm, Sweden and was brought together by long time friends, Anders Nyström (aka Blakkheim) and Jonas Renkse (aka Lord Seth). After more than a year of rehearsals and composing, the first real fruits of their labour came to light in mid 1992 with the release of the demo ‘Jhva Elohim Meth’, recorded at Sweden’s Gorysound Studio and produced by the multi-musician Dan Swanö. The demo sold out immediately, bringing Katatonia to the attention of Dutch label Vic Records, who went on to re-release the demo as a mini CD, titled ‘Jhva Elohim Meth – the Revival’.

Asteria was created in 2004 as an one man band of melodic black metal , in Geneva, by Asteria, of his true name Deniz. This last one began by composing in midi to retranscribe these scores in electronic instruments. Both first ones cds "Deep Space" and "Earth Philosophy" were so recorded. A period of acoustic tries came then which will give "Acoustica" in 2005. Afterward, Asteria composes a demo "The promised land" and records it in 2006. In the same year, "Circle of nature " is recorded . These two albums are a change regard to the precedents because they include real guitars and a real bass. Asteria thus records guitars, bass and singing; the drum kit being a rhythm box. The mini--cd "Contemplation" is born. It is a completely acoustic cd. In 2009, the cd " The lights " is born.

For the lyrical themes, the words turn around the space, the nature, the diverse philosophies and especially on a questioning of the human behavior.

Gorgoroth, meaning “land of great despair”, is a black metal band, named after the dark plains of Mordor in J.R.R.Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. Led by guitarist Infernus (a.k.a. Roger Tiegs), it emerged in 1992 as a trio including vocalist Hat (‘Hate’ in Norwegian) and drummer Goat Pervertor. The band, based in Hyllestad, debuted on April 28th 1993 with a demo, entitled 'A Sorcery Written In Blood', featuring two tracks ‘Sexual Bloodgargling’ and ‘(Under) The Pagan Megalith’ preceded by the intro ‘Gathered At Blåkulla’, actually a minute plus of incoherent screaming.

Borholm was founded in March 2000 in Hungary by three members: Melkor - drums, Mordran - bass, Astaroth - guitar.
In the summer of 2001 they fired their vocalist Ferenc Olajos, but Vlad (Bok “Vlad” Péter) filled up the vacancy soon. That year they got the opportunity to make their first recordings in a studio. Because of personal and musical differences a month later only two of them stayed in the band: Vlad and Astaroth.

Drawing influences from ancient mythology and the perpetual struggle between destruction and life, Be’lakor creates songs that take the listener on a compelling journey. Hoy se dirigía a mi Toni, el cantante de esta banda para informarme de que ya tenían listo su primer album. Al fin! Desde NW la relación que hemos mantenido con esta banda ha sido como mínimo de amistosa desde su inicio unos años atras gracias a Toni que es con quien principalmente o exclusivametne he hablado. Conocemos varias bandas incipientes del panorama nacional pero como esta ninguna, por su afan de superacion, su esfuerzo la dedicacion y la busqueda de un sonido propio y no solo ya por su sonido si no por la calidad humana de estos tios, que muchos no le dareis importancia pero yo estoy harto de pavos bordes, infantiles, creidos super darks o "superstars" y undergrounds... entonces cuando te encuentras unos tios como estos se te alegra hasta la cara, gente respetable, madura, trabajadora, humilde y educada, honorable al fin y al cabo. Gente de bien en lo personal y en lo musical gente de esa que falta por el mundo. Una banda con mucho potencial y ganas y madera para desarrollarlo. Northern Warriors apuesta por karlahan.

Antes de subir el disco lo he estado escuchando analíticamente en cuanto al estilo predominan los teclados creando un toque sinfonico en todo el album. Las canciones son muy variopintas entre si, la intro es muy peliculera muy epica, eso que karlahan saben hacer tan bien. Luego hay canciones que combinan casi todas las variantes del metal, lo mas predominante seria quizás un death melódico o por lo menos es en la variante que mas me gustan estos chicos, hay elementos black, toques góticos algún discreto acercamiento al doom, solos power, melodias folk... veo este debut como una declaracion de intenciones que promete personalmente me quedaria con la ultima cancion "Reverie" es la que veo quizá mas uniforme y que tiene mejor encajados los diferentes elementos propios de la banda en general. Pero hay otras canciones con partes muy buenas, y hasta un momento que te parece estar escuchando summoning, ya lo encontrareis si os poneis a ello jeje.

En resumen una presentación grandiosa (destaco que es un disco auto-producido) de una banda que promete mostrando una gran variedad de repertorio y estilos que de saber encajar y definir de la mejor forma posible podríamos estar ante una de las grandes.

A todo esto como puntilla final remarcar que todos los que hayáis oído el ultimo álbum de Equilibrium "Sagas" habeís escuchado a mi colega Toni cantando en la cancion "Blut Im Auge" para mas información visitar su myspace jeje.
