The Meads of Asphodel are an experimental black metal band with pronounced medieval and Eastern influences from Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. The band was formed in mid 1998 by Metatron and Jaldaboath (aka James Fogarty - also of The Bombs Of Enduring Freedom, Ewigkeit, Old Forest, Jaldaboath), the stated aim being to “create Heavy Guitar based original Black Metal with Medieval/ Eastern influences and a lyrical concept derived from Christ’s mortality, Biblical Apocrypha, Fallen Angels and Death”.

Surt and Thorgrim have been playing together in several metal projects since high school, including Dark Eden, considered by many the best Brazilian doom metal band ever. They were later joined by Modi and Hjalmar, long time friends and brothers of war. In the last days of 2007 the four members decided they wanted to play heavier than ever and make songs about their passion: Norse mythology and Vikings. Hugin Munin was born. The band was initially called Gungnir, but due to copyright issues they became Hugin Munin right after the first song “Die for Odin” was finished.

Moonsorrow is a self-described ’epic heathen metal’ band formed in Helsinki, Finland in 1995. The group’s earliest formation consisted of cousins Ville Sorvali (vocals and bass) and Henri Sorvali (guitar and keyboards) who released various demos that were much more characteristic as being symphonic black metal, musically, than future releases. However, their albums contain occasional flashbacks to their black metal roots.

Turisas is a Finnish folk metal band from Hämeenlinna. They were founded in 1997 by Mathias Nygård and Jussi Wickström and named after an ancient Finnish god of war.

Turisas combine elements of folk metal and power metal, with perhaps some influences of symphonic metal as well. The album title Battle Metal has given rise to the term "battle metal" being used as a description of folk metal (as stated by Metal Hammer magazine) but it may not be a canonical metal subgenre.

Butterfly Temple is a pagan metal band from Moscow, Russia formed in 1995. They are signed under Metalism Records. Their lyrics are influenced by Fantasy, Paganism and Legends. So far, Butterfly Temple released 7 albums. Butterfly Temple was formed by Sergey ‘Aven’ Avanesov (keyboards), Mikhail Shmatko (rhythm guitar) and now former screamer Alexey ‘Lesyar’ Agafonov in Moscow, Russia back in 1995. All three were friends even since elementary school.

Drakum is a folk-metal band from Barcelona (Spain). The band started in December 2009, after a year looking for the right members. During the year 2010 we have been immersed in the composition of songs and recording our first demo.
Now in 2011 we are promoting the demo, starting doing live shows and looking for a label willing to bet on us and help us spread our music around the world.
The band influences go from folking bands as Korpiklaani, Eluveitie to death metal ones as Finntroll, Amon Amarth and some power metal bands such Alestorm, however the aim of Drakum is to do its folk-death metal own style.

Falkenbach is a one-man German folk/viking metal project created by Vratyas Vakyas (literally, “The Searching Wanderer”). Vratyas Vakyas lived in Iceland for a considerable time, but now lives in Düsseldorf, Germany again. Throughout the band’s lifetime, Falkenbach has progressed from a rawer, more “black” sound towards viking-influenced folk metal with mainly clean vocals. Vakyas’ music is nowdays accompanied by session musicians.

Belphegor is an Austrian death/black metal band from Salzburg, originally formed in 1991 under the name Betrayer before changing their name in 1993. They are named after the demon Belphegor. Belphegor was founded as Betrayer in 1991 by vocalist and bassist Maxx, guitarists Helmuth and Sigurd, and drummer Chris. The band released their first demo Kruzifixion in April 1991, and Unborn Blood later on.

Triptykon is the most recent musical project of Thomas Gabriel Fischer, founding member of the pioneering heavy metal bands Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Apollyon Sun. Fischer announced his departure from Celtic Frost in May 2008 and shortly afterwards revealed that his new project would be entitled Triptykon. Fischer commented: “Triptykon will sound as close to Celtic Frost as is humanly possible, and the album I am working on will feature all the material I envisioned for the successor to Celtic Frost’s Monotheist.

Korpiklaani is the new name of the band previously called Shaman, that was formed by Jonne Järvelä who still remains the mastermind of Korpiklaani. Whilst Shaman recorded songs in the original Saami language, Korpiklaani recorded most songs in English at first, and mostly Finnish lyrics on their most recent albums.
