Dimmu Borgir is a symphonic black metal band from Norway. “Dimmu Borgir” means “Dark Cities” or “Dark Fortresses” in Icelandic and Old Norse. The name is derived from a volcanic formation in Iceland, Dimmuborgir.

The Story of "Heathen Foray" begins in autumn of 2005 in the city of Deutschlandsberg (Styria/Austria). After the collapse of their old band, Jürgen Brüder (Ex-Plethora) and Daniel Koinegg (Ex-Plethora) decided, in a night full of alcohol, to try it again with a new project. Soon the two guitarists began to compose new material and to arrange new songs. But this time, they wanted to set their main aim to the quality of the songs.

Playing a unique blend of doom metal and traditional Irish laments, the band has successfully fused their influences to create Gaelic Doom Metal.

The band started in 1994 as a solo project, with Vindsval playing all instruments under the name Vlad. He released two demos under this title before changing the projects name to Blut Aus Nord before the release of Ultima Thulée in 1995. The next three albums were recorded with the aid of session musicians: It is only recently that the group has had any permanent members apart from Vindsval (who also played in The Eye and Children of Maani).

Drudkh, meaning “wood” in Sanskrit, is an atmospheric black metal band from Kharkiv, Ukraine formed in 2002 by Roman Saenko, the leading member of Hate Forest; Thurios, the leading member of Astrofaes; and Yuriy Sinitsky, of Lucifugum and DEFINITION SANE. Their strongly folk-influenced music focuses on a dense atmosphere with a lot of feeling, and the lyrical contents embrace Slavic mythology, seasons and poetry.

In the summer of 2003, Tobias Buck, who at that time played the lead guitar in the Münster death metal formation MALZAN, decided to start a metal side project that should take a different musical direction and lay more emphasis soundwise on power metal and hardcore influences. To carry out his plans, Toby teamed up with drummer Sebastian Heldt, whom he had already played together with in the 1998 Münster talent competition winning new metal band SPOUT, and with singer Benny Hilleke, who had no band experience whatsoever. The three of them started writing songs and rehearsing together but soon realised that with only a guitar and a drum, they would not be able to develop the amount of pressure necessary to create the aggressive overall metal sound they were aiming for.
